THE PEOPLE’SDEMANDS.
Power is shifting in Texas. For the first time in more than 30 years, the governor’s office will pass to a different party. The Texas House will have a new majority, and Harris County voters elected a new county judge.
While those leaders set their priorities, residents have a rare opening to put local needs on the state agenda. If your street floods, you can ask the city for better drainage and the state to help fund it. What belongs on the list where you live?

01 /LISTEN
Bring a demand to a listening session in Harris County or add it online.
02 /REPORT
We’ll research the demands, identify the offices that can act, and share the findings with residents first.
03 /TRACK
We’re planning a public dashboard where you can follow an official’s response and check whether a promised change happened.
Listening sessions run through the second week of December. The work continues after that.
A starter list.
Three examples from our opening brainstorm. What would you add?
- STATE
Cut unnecessary testing so teachers have more time to teach.
- COUNTY
Let us request county records online without taking half a day off work.
- CITY
Fix the potholes on our block and give us a repair date we can check.
SUBMIT YOUR
DEMAND.
If you had five minutes with the official responsible, what would you ask them to do? Describe one change in your own words. Your name and email are optional.
BRING YOUR PEOPLE TO THE TABLE.
Bring a few people together at your library, meeting space, or kitchen table. You can host a listening session, help neighbors put their demands in writing, or research what it would take to get them done.
